My Love Of The Silent Era

kezzie22

I wanted to talk a bit more about my love for the silent era and why it was so pioneering. There was so much variety in regards to the different genres and styles, for example, Carl Laemmle's Universal's idea of horror films initially was like a 'Beauty And The Beast' style, up until his son Carl Laemmle Jr took over and introduced a much more modern style to the horror genre.

Another genre I want to talk about is comedy, my favourite genre in film. There were so many comedians/comediennes to choose from who had their own unique brand of comedy, for example, Buster Keaton's style was a mixture of slapstick and action, Ben Turpin's was purely slapstick and Mabel Normand's was witty and smart. Douglas Fairbanks swashbuckling, romantic hero films were and still are great fun to watch, but he also had a knack for comedy, particularly in the 1910's.

I will do another post very soon to conclude my views on the silent era, then I'll be moving on to what is known as 'The Golden Age Of Hollywood'. Exciting times ahead!
